God’s Precipice Call

McKnightEnterprises.org

The children of Israel wanted a king … God chose Saul. This un-discerned ascension required Saul to change into a new man, whether he wanted to or not. God had made a precipice call to Saul.

The definition of precipice is a very steep or overhanging place, a situation of great peril, risk, danger, or threat. Therefore, a precipice call is a fearful place to be. It requires you to put your life on the line. This call caused Saul to struggle with the words ‘change’ and ‘conform’ all the way to his death.

Being promoted to a high office is just as dangerous as it is exciting. The decisions made in this position can either give God praise or cause others to plot your demise to overthrow you. During Saul’s high calling, the voice of God was saying, “Obey Me and live,” but the people convinced Saul to obey them, which led to his death. God’s call is a leap of faith, but the call of the people is a fall to destruction.

For Jesus, His high calling (precipice moment) was during His wilderness experience. There, Satan had taken him up into the Holy City and put Him on a pinnacle of the temple to tempt Him. When Satan said to Jesus, “If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.” (Matthew 4:6)

Jesus was not moved by Satan’s words nor confused about His purpose … even after going without food for forty days. Jesus' response to Satan was, “It is written again, thou shalt not tempt the Lord they God.” (Matthew 4:7)

From this example, we can conclude that a precipice moment is also a life-altering moment where you are called to shift to another level. Will you answer God’s precipice call?
