In the Book of Acts, we read that Peter and John went to the Temple to pray. As they were entering the gate, a man cried out for alms … handouts for himself. Who knows? This man could have been one who was sitting by the pool, too. (John 5)
As the beggar called out to Peter and John, Peter saw him and said, “Look on us.” Peter saw this man just as Jesus saw the man by the pool earlier. Jesus said to the disciples, “These works and greater works than these shall you do, because I am going to the Father." He was giving examples of how to heal the people.
Peter used Jesus' example and said, 'Silver and gold I have none, but what I have, give I unto you. In the Name of Jesus, rise and be healed.” Peter said this is what Jesus gave me to use to help you, to get you up, to free you. The authority and His power.
So, get up! Get out of that situation, and let go of the bitterness … don't stay stuck, you can walk if you want to. That man jumped up leaping and praising God! Others watching, saw him and got excited with him. In their excitement, they didn't notice that they got free, too! We will get over what ails us … when we look upon others first. Jesus can do it all at one time!
Jesus said, "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek, He hath sent Me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound." (Isaiah 61:1)
