For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11)
Isn’t it amazing how you can’t have Christmas without Easter, or Easter without Christmas? Christ’s start and finish on earth is the same thing. It was a completed work even before He left heaven. It just needed to be established in the earth as it is in heaven.
There are many aspects of the miracle birth of Christ we could look at, but I want to look at Mary, the handmaiden chosen by God to be the earthly mother of Jesus Christ. The Bible presents Mary as a godly, chaste, young Jewish girl who was betrothed to a devout Jewish carpenter named Joseph. She was an ordinary young girl who had no more or no less than any other girl living in her day.
The Angel Gabriel told Mary the Holy Spirit would overshadow (cover) her, and she would conceive a child. That is when Mary became the covering for our Messiah! What made her available to be used by God? It was her attitude and commitment to Him. When she heard the truth of God’s plan, she immediately accepted it.
Mary is symbolic of how God expects us to carry His Son within us and guard our faith and the church at all costs. Her story teaches us no man or woman can be saved or used by God apart from believing in Him. Jesus is coming back for His church, His glorious bride that is to be without spot or blemish because He said we are perfect through Him. He has us covered. If He covers us and we are His reflection, then there is no sin. His love covers a multitude of sins. The multitude (the church) will be covered and adorned in His glory. This is the best, the greatest, and the ultimate cover of all. It is the job of the physical church to be the ultimate cover, just as He, Our Spiritual Church, is.
